of months by virtue of them benghazi situation. she is extremely well qualified. the president knows that. he is not iffing to be forced into a decision by virtue of the chatter that's out there in the street and the politics, and i think he is going about it in a deliberate way. there are a lot of other issues also going on that he deals with on a daily basis that are very real-time, and you also have the fiscal cliff problem. he i don't feel has the secretary of state who has said she will stay in in national hockey league a replacement is there. it is normal to get that done right before the inauguration. he has a lot of team because both of these people's, senator kerry or ambassador rice, are fully vetted. they've been around for a while. people know them. they know the sort of things they've said and the records pretty clear and public, so either one of them can move pretty quickly through the process because they both have been vetted and been so high profile and public over a long period of time. >> is -- you don't think that she's been damaged by people -- by all of these hits sh

the benghazi attack. it said deficiencies at the state department led to the attack. >> good afternoon, i am joined by other senators to comment on the tragedy surrounding benghazi. it has been more than three months after the attack that killed four americans, including the ambassador. the american people are beginning to get the answers they deserve, but there are more relevant questions that still need to be answered. the report of the state department's accountability board -- review board is a serious and credible effort that identifies failures of officials and institutions in the department. several people have lost their jobs. it is a good start, but only a start. the tragedy raised other serious questions about our military, intelligence community, and perhaps most importantly the administration's so-called light footprint approach to libya. it does not provide answers to these questions because it never asked them. eight is essential for the department to conduct an accountability effort on the occasion of the worst terrorist attack in american history of repeated attacks on u.s. a
said on several sunday morning tv shows about benghazi, the attack in libya that ended up costing the lives of four americans. but by the time that whole thing played out, it was pretty clear that she was reading talking points that were put together by the intelligence community. she had very little, if nothing to do with embassy security itself. she happened to be on those shows themselves because secretary clinton had just come back from a trip and said she was too tired to go on them. there was more under way here though. part of it was a little bit of her style, which was very confrontational one and that probably didn't serve her all that well when she went up to capitol hill a few weeks ago and tried to talk this out between senator john mccain, lindsey graham, others who had opposed her. little bit of it was the white house i think after president obama came out very strongly in her support. she was afterall one of the first people to sign on to his foreign policy team when he was a pretyim probable candidate. after that, the white house did not come out in sort of a full-
. on the downside, you see what's happening with the benghazi affair. she's likely to have a bruising confirmation process. some republican senators said they might hold up her nomination. that could drag out a while. john kerry, on the other hand, would be easily confirmable. you see the senators are encouraging president obama to nominate him. senator kerry also has a lot of world stature, has relationships with many world leaders. he's seen as someone who could help build on those relationships to further foreign policy and also senator kerry also, as chairman of the foreign relations committee, very popular chairman, has a lot of diplomatic experience. president obama has used him you know out of a quasi unofficial envoy to go and talk to leader in trouble spots like afghanistan, pakistan, and syria at one point. on the negative side, senator kerry's not seen as someone who is as close and enjoys the same close relationship with president obama that embassy rice does. he's not seen as being in that inner circle. and that's a problem former secretary colin powell had. >> he may have gotten clos
cannot nominate susan rice and not because of the benghazi scandal but because of her previous tenure at state where she doesn't have a good record and her u.n. record is not good. we don't have time to go through the particulars, but i think senator kerry would not only be the policy and political wiser choice. >> everything i've read about ambassador rice, she's imminently qualified for the job. >> you guys can continue this conversation at home right now. thanks to both of you for joining us. >>> the royal line of succession could soon be adding a new name. britain is buzz right now over the news the royal family is about to add another member. ll t in time for christmas? yeah, sure you can. great. where's your gift? uh... whew.
